More than 175 years ago, Albert Gallatin, the distinguished statesman sun Finance Minister under Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, declared his intention to establish “in enormous and fast-growing it … a system of rational and practical education for all matching and courtesy was opened to all.” Founded in 1831, NYU is now one of the largest private universities in the United States. Of more than 3,000 colleges and universities in America, NYU is one of only 60 institutions of the distinguished membership in American universities.

With more than 2,500 courses, the university awards more than 25 different degrees. Although overall the University is large, schools and colleges, individuals are the units – any small to medium in size with its own traditions, programs, and faculty – and there are many communities that can be found in the New York University community based on interests, activities, and some experiences.

New York University, in line with the vision of its founder, is “the city”: the university – which has no walls and no gates – intertwined in New York, inspired by its vitality.
